New ebook by Aleya Hart, 164 pages

Ten quiet minutes before the day asks for anything.

Slow Kettle Mornings is a short, kind ebook with 30 small morning rituals. Each one takes about as long as boiling water. No 5 a.m. alarm, no cold showers, no 40-step routine. Just a calmer start you can keep on a Tuesday.

SlowKettleMornings30 small rituals for a calmer weekAleya Hart
30 rituals, each about 10 minutes long

first ritual is on page 12

Read by 9,300 people so far, from night-shift nurses in Ipoh to new parents in Kuching.

  • “I read it on the LRT in two days and started the next Monday.”

    Farah, Petaling Jaya

  • “Finally a morning book that doesn't want me up at 5.”

    Dev, Penang

  • “I do ritual 4 on night-shift weeks too. It works at 7 p.m.”

    Mei Ling, Ipoh

You wake up and the day is already shouting.

  • Your phone is in your hand before your feet touch the floor.
  • Forty-three unread messages, and none of them are yours to solve before 8 a.m.
  • Breakfast is whatever is fastest, eaten standing up.
  • By 9 a.m. you feel late for your own life, and it's only Monday.

The usual fixes make it worse. A 5 a.m. club. A 12-step routine. An app that sends you a notification to tell you to stop looking at notifications. You try for a week, miss one day, and feel like you failed at mornings too.

The problem isn't discipline. It's size. A routine that needs an hour won't survive a school run, a late night or a sick kid. A routine that fits inside the time it takes to boil water will.

That's the whole idea of this book. One tiny ritual, tied to something you already do every morning, repeated until it feels like yours.

The kettle ritual, in three steps

  1. 1

    Fill the kettle

Your cue. The same small action every morning tells your body the day has not started yet.

  2. 2

    Sit while it boils

Four minutes, no phone. Pick one ritual from the book: a breath count, a window, a stretch you can do in a chair.

  3. 3

    Write one line

One sentence on what matters today. Not a to-do list. One line, then you pour the tea.

Is this book for you? Let's be honest.

It's for you if

  • You feel tired before the day has properly started.
  • You have 10 minutes in the morning, not 60.
  • You've tried big routines and dropped them by Thursday.
  • You work shifts, have kids, or both, and need something that bends.
  • You like short chapters you can read with one hand.

It's not for you if

  • You want a productivity system with trackers and scores.
  • You're looking for medical or mental-health treatment. Please talk to a doctor.
  • You already have a morning routine you love. Keep it.

Take a look at a real page

This is ritual 4 from part two, as it appears in the PDF. Big type, short paragraphs, lots of white space. It reads well on a phone at 6:45 in the morning.

Part two, rituals for quiet

4

The four-count breath

Time: the length of one kettle. Place: anywhere you can sit.

42

Fill the kettle and switch it on. Now sit, or lean on the counter if sitting feels like too much. Put your phone face down, or in another room if you're brave today.

Breathe in through your nose for four. Hold for four. Let it out through your mouth for four. Rest for four. That's one round. Most kettles give you about six rounds before they click.

You'll lose count. Everyone does. When you notice, start again at one without telling yourself off. Noticing is the whole practice.

Try it tomorrow

Stick a note on the kettle that says “4”. That's the whole reminder.

Aleya Hart

Written by someone who hated mornings for nine years

Aleya Hart is the pen name of a Malaysian writer and former hospital pharmacist. Nine years of 7 a.m. shifts taught her that the morning advice online was written for people with free time and quiet houses.

So she tested smaller things. One breath. One window. One line in a notebook while the kettle boiled. She shared the rituals in a Sunday email, and it grew to 14,000 readers. This book collects the 30 that readers kept coming back to.

“You don't need a better morning. You need a smaller one you'll actually keep.”

  • The first morning book I finished

I bought it at 11 p.m. on a Sunday feeling awful about the week. Did ritual 1 the next morning while the kids were still asleep. Three weeks later I still do it most days. The short chapters are the secret.

  • No 5 a.m. nonsense

Every other book wanted me to become a different person. This one just asked for the time it takes to boil water. The phone-last chapter alone was worth RM29.

    Arjun P., Cyberjaya

  • Works on broken sleep

Part five has a section for bad weeks and it made me cry a bit, in a good way. I read it one-handed at 4 a.m. feeds. Now I do the four-count breath before every feed.

    SW

    Siew Wen L., Kuching
    New mum

  • Finally something for shift workers

The night-shift chapter is real. I do my 'morning' at 7 p.m. and the rituals still work. I've bought copies for three colleagues.

    HM

    Hafiz M., Kota Bharu

  • Simple, maybe too simple for some

If you want a big system, this isn't it. But that was exactly what I needed during audit season. Would love a printed version.

    GT

    Grace T., Johor Bahru

  • My wife and I do it together now

We read one ritual out loud each morning while the kettle goes. Ten minutes, no phones. Our mornings are quieter and we fight less about the school run.

How do I get the ebook after I pay?

You'll see a download page straight after payment, and the same link arrives by email within 2 minutes. It works for 5 downloads, so you can put it on your phone and your laptop.

Which format should I use?

EPUB for Apple Books, Google Play Books, Kobo or Kindle (send it with Send to Kindle). PDF for everything else, or if you like to print pages. You get both.

Is there a Bahasa Melayu edition?

Yes. The Malay edition, Pagi Cerek Perlahan, is in the same download at no extra cost. Both editions have the same 30 rituals.

Can I get a refund?

No. This is a digital product and the files download instantly, so all sales are final. That's why chapter one is free to read first. If a file is broken, we'll replace it.

I'm really busy. Is 10 minutes realistic?

Most rituals take four minutes, the length of an average kettle. The book is written for people with kids, shifts and long commutes. There's a whole chapter on the mornings when even four minutes is too much.

Is this therapy or medical advice?

No. It's a gentle self-help book about small daily habits. If you're struggling with your mental health, please speak to a doctor or a counsellor.

Can I buy copies for my team?

Yes. Team licences start at 10 copies for RM220. Tap the WhatsApp button and we'll send an invoice with your company's details.

Tomorrow morning, the kettle's going on anyway.

You can spend those four minutes scrolling, or you can spend them on something that makes the rest of the day a little softer. RM29, less than two teh tarik and a roti a week for a month.
